Seriously! Letters to the MP time!!

It is my understanding that certain cars, if they fall below a certain emmissions limit, are free from paying any VED (or whastever it is called these days).
So, why do motorcycles have to pay this 'tax' as well? They are known for being the 'cleaner' option (especially these days as there are fuck all 2 strokes on the road).
Surely something wrong somewhere?

Because as they are mostly tuned for speed rather than economy they have ridiculous mpg's.

How many "commuter" bikes are there? Not enough, that's for sure.

If they can get a four seater car to do 60 + mpg then to be exempt the bike will have to do 240mpg!!!

Ahh, but what about the room a bike takes up on the road and when parked compared to a car?
Most commuter trips are taken solo, so that is a lot of wasted room in a car but not with a bike.

Bill, Bill, Bill you're forgetting one thing. Times have changed it's all about screwing money out of the workers.

The free bike parking has now gone (ish). Parking on the pavements is outlawed, parking bays have been removed.

That is only in the smoke though. Get outside of it and things get easier.

Trouble is, it rains a lot so Bikes will never be a sensible alternative.
I've ridden bikes in all weathers but my choice will always be a car in shitty or cold weather. Plus you can't tow a boat/big trailer/caravan with a bike or take several passengers (legally).

I don't think that bikes are really the clean option either. To get the sort of performance that they have, the emissions must be quite high. Look at the mpg figures. For instance a Hyabusa at 190mph will do fuckall mpg I'm sure.

About time they stopped thinking solely of faster.

There must be a good market for solid, reliable economic commuters.

Not everyone wants a scooter. Even if they do come with 700cc engines ans leg shields.
