Too cold or what?

Post by Alan H on Sun Aug 21, 2011 6:09 am

The tomatoes have been very slow this year. The Golden sunrise were all cherry sized last year and delicious - well, the ones in the GH anyway, the ones outside were much bigger and less tasty.
This year the ones inside are big and the ones outside are doing fuck all, so it must be a lot colder.

The cucumbers are doing well though.
Tha Cape Goosegogs are bloody lovely, dozens of 'em too.

Dug some taters out of one of the little bag thingies yesterday, bloody lovely. Best spuds I've ever tasted. Can't believe they actually taste of anything, I suppose we all get used to eating poor quality stuff and forget what proper food should taste like.

Loads of toms - all green.

Mrs Cheese has made them in to chutney. She thought it better to do that than waste them.

So free toms but had to buy sultanas, apples. sugar, jars etc.

The toms are ripening but slowly. The Golden Sunrise are quite big and taste nothing like the cherry size ones that did really well last year and the stripey ones are a tad bland too.
Gonna dig some more taters out today if all the bleeding wasps have gone. I gave them a good dose of insectopissoff yesterday, so we'll see.

Some of the green peppers are looking well, still a bit small to pick, hopefully we'll get some more sun to warm them up. (wish, wish.)

Apples are huge and plentiful.

The druggies next door have a tree. They have been massacring it through the summer as it only does "fucking crab apples. It's shit!"

It's a Bramley. Tossers.

We planted a Bramley last year, it got hit very hard by the frosts and looks like a twig now.
Goint to leave it until next year and see what happens.

The James Grieve performs superbly and the Egremont Russett has yet to flower.

I cannot believe that we have so many types.

I'm from Kent and the orchards are being grubbed up as we're importing them from fucking China!!!!!!!!

Often they don't even harvest them!

They are such tarts. Ooo it's advertised so I have to drink shite!

Like beer, the fantastic cider we produce here is ignored for fizzy foreign muck!!!

Every barrell of cider should have a dead rat or rotten beef in it.
