The Bandit

Post by Bill (the boss) on Tue Nov 22, 2011 2:01 am

Copied from the local news.

A MAN who goes by the name of The Bandit failed to turn up for a court hearing over an allegation he had been caught speeding in Dorset.

The 48-year-old motorcyclist appeared on the list at the Weymouth court as Mr The Bandit of an address in Fantley Lane at Zeals, Wiltshire.

Chairman of the bench Graham Richmond queried the name asking: "Is that real?"

The magistrates were told that The Bandit held an endorsement-free driving licence in that name.

The court heard that a summons had been sent out on September 16 and that there had been no response to it.

The case was proved in the defendant's absence.

Nicola Reece, prosecuting, said the motorcyclist had been riding a Spanish-registered Kawasaki on single carriageway Fantley Lane at Milton on Stour around 3pm on June 6 at 72mph, where the national speed limit of 60mph was in force.

She told the court: "The driver was stopped and gave his details as Mr The Bandit."

He had at the time told police that he spent most of the year in Spain and that he would be returning there in a week.

Magistrates imposed a fine and costs totalling £275 and put three penalty points on his driving record.
