superstition

i'm not superstitious at all but i want to ask yall about some. over here if a black cat crosses your path a LOT of folks say thats bad luck. isnt it just the opposite over there? thats one. i got more but i'll get to em in a bit.

Some people say it is good luck, some bad?

Spilling salt:- if you spill salt you have to take a pinch with your right hand and throw it over your left shoulder

riding into a hedge is bad luck

watching someone else do it is fucking funny though

magpies (the bird) is a big superstition over here

One for sorrow
Two for Joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for Gold
Seven for a secret never to be told
Eight a wish
Nine a kiss
Ten for a bird you must not miss

I know why it's bad luck to put shoes on a table, very bad luck indeed, it dates back to times in England when you threw your bodily fluids out onto the street, then if you put your shoes on the table it'll contaminate the food, you get the squits, and probably die. (1600's I believe)

yeh. a lot of superstitions do have a factual begining. like friday the thirteenth is considered bad luck because thats the day the king of france had all the templars rounded up. but that was a bad day for them. that doesnt mean that particular date is bad from there on out. the one about the salt goes to way back when salt was as valuable as gold.
