Maxxis Hi Max tyres

Post by Alan H on Sat Dec 31, 2011 8:38 am

Are they OK? Not a name I'm familiar with.

Like these (clicky)

For the GT550, I used to run a Dunlop TT100 (K81) rear, and KR76 frontin the '70s, but I don't think they're available nowadays!!

They are OK, easily handle the 'power' of a GT550

Avons still make some with a classic style tread, in fact I bought a couple for my Superdream fairly recently

Mmm. There's an Avon on the front of one of the 550s. Roadrunner I think. I always preferred Dunlops back in the day as Avons tended to be for the combo men & had flatter profiles.

When the 550 first came out, the Bridgestones originally fitted had the deserved reputation of being 'sensitol lubricated'! That's why I went for the KR76/TT100 with a bigger 19" back wheel to help with the scraping problem.
