Summat diff'rent
I just bought a boat.
Well, I bought it on behalf of my dive club and got the dosh off the club t'other day, so it cost me bugger all really.
A 6 metre RIB with a 130hp Yamaha outboard and lots of kit.
Quite expensive too - two grand.
I'll post some pics soon.
I love the motor - it's two stroke. 1.7 litre V4. Zingggggggggggg a dinggggggg a dinggggggggg!!!!!!!!!

Re: Summat diff'rent
The sticky out prop would get tangled in me jeans.
Oh, you just mean the engine bit!!!!
Thought about summat like that a long time ago but in the end it was too complicated/couldn't be arsed syndrome.
T'would sound (and go) very well though I reckon.

Re: Summat diff'rent
Forgot about this thread!!
Stripped all the electrics off the boat, one of the Eagle GPS unit doesn't like the antenna so is going into the 'have a look sometime' box, as is the radio next to it cos it looks pap.
The other radio is OK as is the Lowrance GPS/sonar jobby, so we have a start.
The engine has had the gearbox off for repairs and refitted OK. The rear A frame has been off, cleaned & polished and replaced, the bottle rack has been cleaned as has the front 'pram handle' which has to be refitted. We have some nylon sheet for a new console top as there is several holes in the existing one that we dont want. We've measured up for a windscreen as we are pappy and the driver (me mainly) wants to keep dry while driving!
Ongoing;
We didn't get the grant for a new trailer, so as the other boat that we use in the Dive Club has just had a new axle, we are going to smarten the old axle up and fit that to the trailer instead of the double axlles so that the trailer is braked (and legal!) It'll also need a new braked towbar assembly so the brake will work.
We are going to fit a new radio (DSC type) as the other one is VHF so there will be two - one as a spare. We are also going to get a new GPS unit, prolly a Lowrance HDS7 as they are pretty and there's one on the other boat so we can standardise on kit. The DSC radio will be a Lowrance so there's less hassle getting them connected together so the DSC bit works.
We've been doing more work on the other boat than this one, so that should be going back in the watter in a couple of weeks and hopefully the Tornado about a month later. Some wiring still to do and the axle, but no big problems (hopefully). There will be a new fuel separator and a big fuck off water pump as well. I'll get some pics soon, but been busy with the garage last weekend and this weekend too. Concrete to follow!
No wonder I'm knackered!

Re: Summat diff'rent
The last RIB I drove that was similar to the Tornado was a 5.8 metre Humber Destroyer with an Evinrude 120. This is a shallow V hull so should be a tad quicker.
The Humber did 50 knots. The only sound you could hear at full throttle was the whistle of air going in the fuel tank breather!
