effing bikes....
hey guys, so my VFR800Fi hasn't been ridden in anger for a few years, and now i have time on my hands i thought i would get the old girl out of the garage and put her back together.
A few years back she fell over in the street and did the fairings in, i stripped them off, sorted them out and resprayed them...... and thats about as far as i got.
She was started every couple of months and run up to temp and left for a bit.
So this week i ran her up (planning on doing a service), started fine, reached temp and then just died and would restart. So i grabbed the moment as she was warm to drop the oil, do the filters and plugs. But now she wont start
If i crank her for 5 seconds or so i can get one warm downpipe. so its a sparking issue. If i pull one of the non-firing ht's and put one of the old plugs on i get a shonky orange spark. (i dont have the slug spanner handy as had to borrow it) The coil has a resistance of about .3 which seems to be rite for the bike.
I really dont want to start pulling everything off the bike and moving coil packs, draining a full tank of fuel etc. Any recommendations on what to check next? I assume all the coils use the same earth point so i dont think its that (thoughts?)

Re: effing bikes....
Shite plugs, cdi dying, pick up gone open circuit.
First off, I would try fresh petrol. I know it isn't a plug, but it is the easiest, cheapest option.

Hey bill. Well it's going to have to wait until Monday now. Will swap the coil off the known good pot and see it ignition follows it. Petrol is good, plugs are new. I did get her running with a light splash of easy start, but once going would only run smooth between 2k and 5k and would miss if you tried to rev it. I'm wondering if 3 of the injectors are fouled

Bunged up injectors possible, or mouse nest in the airbox maybe?

Clean air filter. Just changed. Runs the same without a filter

Hmm, only clean between 2 and 5thou points to mucky injectors or cdi breaking down. Unlikely to be coil as that would miss all the time, not in a specific rev range.

Only clean between 2 and 5? Say what bill?
Each plug has its own coil. I should be working on the bike today, but you know who bill can't write a fecking rota and I've been drafted in to save the world again....

Re: effing bikes....
Well. I've swapped the coil on the good pot and ignition didnt follow so it is cdi or fueling by the look of it.
Sure I put good fuel in it, but I'm draining the tank and am off to the garage now to get some more to be sure

For box off, tank back on, only fueling on one pot....

Re: effing bikes....
Rite, I can AT&T the injector fueling the good pot, and nothing at all, not even a weep from the other 3. Put a duff injector wire on the good pot and that fires. So, can I safely assume I have 3 fouled/failed injectors? I see they are not on a common rail, so could it be the pump not producing for those injectors?

Re: effing bikes....
My bad. It does have a fuel rain. The one firing is the last in the line

Re: effing bikes....
I have a ultrasonic cleaner, that will be my first stop once I figure out how to get the thing off. I beleave it involves a very long screwdriver, which I don't have
