Do you need pics of chairs?
I'm trying to go to the Knebworth Classics show tomorrow, there will be chairs there.

Any news on the project Bill?
Are the joiny bits to the bike strong enough?
All the chairs I've ever seen have solid mounts, not turnbuckles. If they're flexing that could be the prob maybe?

I think you could be right there Al. I had some of the turnbuckles in compression and some t'other way so should have been OK, but...
So, I am thinking about it again as I didnt want to make it look like a scaffy tube special.

No more sidecar porn as of yet as I have taken it off and am having a serious rethink about the geometry and how it is all supposed to work as it didnt when I done it.

Easy?? So I have to make a 90 degree turn in the drive, bearing in mind it is chain drive, source a suitably geared differential, no thank you. I will persist and I shall overcome.

halleluja.
a neck angle controlled electrical motor driving the side car wheel could solve your problem. kind of a counter-power-steering. important note: make someone record your first test ride!!!

Re: Part ?? of the hangy on thing it IT LIVES! AND IT TRIED TO KILL ME!!
Most (all?) sidecars have an offset - forward chair wheel (non-driven) - compared to the rear bike wheel.
Having an non-offset rear axle would mean that the combo setup would be in effect, a trike or if the chair was on the side (sidecar - names a giveaway) the steering wheel wouldn't be as effective on the non-chair side as the rear wheel of the bike would tend to lift on corners, and if there wasn't a diff in that case, I'm sure the insurance companies would be horrified as it wouldn't tend to go round corners well, if at all, resulting in expensive policies and arse/seat nipping situations on a regular occurrence.
Normally the chair wheel isn't powered (except for stuff like the BMW or Zundapp outfits) but it makes the situation more complicated than it needs be and a helluva lot more expensive all round. I don't think that is part of Bill's plan to conquer the world.
I could be wrong, but I reckon that Bill's chair needs to be more securely clamped to the bike frame so that there's no movement at all. All the combos that I've ever seen hav rigid clamps in three planes to the bike/chair installation.
I could be wrong - it has been known.
I've been divorced twice.
But in this case I don't think so.
Have you thought of a trials type set up Bill. I've seen a couple on eblob for not much money. They aren't popular due to being hard work, something I know you aren't scared of.
In case anyone thinks I'm talking bollox on this subject, although in the past it has been known (gasp, shock horror)! this time it's straight John Bull.
Keep smiling.

As an Electrical Engineer (and programmer) this would need considerable design and setup skills well beyond that found in normal mortal man - that means lots of money to make it work. How would this be powered, bearing in mind the small battery/generator on the average bike? The first ride recording would be interesting if the driver survived!
Fukkit, I'll stick to solos. She can get on the back or get on the bus. (Don't tell her I said that you twats!)

lol alan.
i wasn't really really serious about the e-drive. the thought of all these new and fancy E-cars with their motors mounted directly on the wheel axle came to mind.
but if it's really gotta be a sidecar i'd go for a 2WD dnepr...those things are crazy and would be perfect for the *"%รง*/% wintertime!

But the right hand chairs have been banned since the early '80's.

In thiscountry, yes, but Mr R comes from a land of left hookers or right hand chairs.
